On Monday and Tuesday the Lierse players underwent medical tests from sports doctor Peter Vervoort, in preparation for the new season. Vervoort has worked together with Lierse for several years on preparation for
the new season, but from this season he’ll extend his services throughout the whole season, in consultation with the
coaching staff.
Dr Vervoort elaborates: ” The direct reason for this extensive approach is the bad physical condition of the players during last season. In the second half of matches they had problems. Our no.1 priority is to get the condition of the players back to a good level. The first step that was taken was to provide the players with a running schedule for the close season. From the tests done on Monday and Tuesday, it appears that 90% of the players have followed that schedule well, from which we can already see a conditional improvement of 30% compared to last season, which is a serious step in the right direction.”
The players had their blood, fat percentage & weight measured, and had to undergo various tests.
Vervoort: “We have done 3 types of tests in the last 2 days. The first was a condition - lacto test, whereby we measure
their stamina and endurance. With these results we can divide the players into smaller groups, and then give a specific
schedule per group in order to improve their condition.
The second was a balance - stability test, and the third a strength measurement. With these results we can target our
work on different muscle groups. The most important aim here is to prevent injury, last season we had far too many
muscle injuries.”
Contrary to last season there will be two weeks’ training before the first pre-season match.
Vervoort: “In consultation with the coaching staff we decided not to play any matches in the first two weeks, but to opt for a conditional preparation, so that we are ready for the start of the League. we have to be able to play 90 minutes at top level.”
How have the players reacted to this?
Vervoort: ” From the initial reactions of the players, it seems that they are happy with these tests, they have by and large followed their schedules, and show ambition to get conditionally stronger.”

The 3rd edition of ‘Lier Sings’ has been a great success. Thanks to the weather Gods, the Lierse market square was packed with thousands of people. After the warm up tones of Wim Leys and his group @fundum, the singing talents on the market were ready for an evening of singing.
From around 21.00 they sang non-stop until midnight, conducted by the choir and presentor Marc D’hollander, about 35 big hits. The atmosphere was great and a packed market square let themselves go. Maged Samy also had a great time and joined the choir on the stage. Work has already begun on the next edition!
Until next year!
