Further to the complaint from Antwerp being accepted by the Playing Committee of the Belgian FA, the Fixtures Commission was obliged to amend the fixture list. For Lierse this means that some matches have been changed, although the first home match is still on Sunday 7th September, but against Antwerp instead of Club Luik (Liege).

Our reserves begin their season this evening at home versus Hamme. The following First team players are in the squad: Thomas De Corte, Jeroen Mertens, Christopher Meyers, Dries Ventose and Koen Weuts. Also the Egyptian triallist Shokry Islam is in the squad.

On 1st September we definitely get underway with the Lierse/JMG/Wadi Degla Academy.

We are looking for a few tutors who could give lessons in the academy to a number of boys between the ages of 11 and 13. We are especially looking for tutors of History and Geography.

But we’re especially looking for coaches.
Their task will consist of looking after the children during the hours that there is no lessons, or no training. So it will be mainly evenings.
The academy is based in Tongerlo, on the site of the Sporta-complex.
We are looking for two (or three) coaches, who interract well with children, and who could stay overnight every other week in Tongerlo. This is a fulltime job, with a lot of responsibility. The coach is there as the contact point of the children before after lessons and training sessions. He or she guides them in the completion of their homework, but equally importantly during leisure time. Some experience is definitely a plus point. A proof of good moral conduct is an essential.

Lierse now know their opponents in the fourth round of the Belgian (Cofidis) Cup. The’ll play at home on Saturday 16th August at 8.00 pm vs 4th division side Kelmis. Kelmis won 0-5 today away to Hoei. Normally Lierse should have played the match away, but after a consultation with Kelmis, it has been agreed to play the match at the Lisp. If Lierse gets through this round, they’ll play at home a week later against either Verviers/SK Ternat or Wetteren. Ticket information to follow.

Today the 3000th season ticket was sold for the 2008-09 season. That’s now 770 more than last season.
The proud holder of the 3000th ticket is ten-year old Kelsey Heylen. It’s her first season ticket. Her brother already bought his season ticket two weeks ago. Her slight delay brought her a unique and exclusive polo shirt, with the symbolic number 3000 on. In addition she had her photo taken with Leo Theyskens and Maged Samy.

Three thousand season tickets. That’s a figure that most clubs in second division (and a great number in First division) can only dream of. Also proof that our supporters believe in a great season. The counter doesn’t stop at 3000. 3,987 is for example a very nice figure.

As promised earlier, the threshold of 3000 season tickets being passed means that 5 supporters’ names will be drawn from the season tickets sold, to go on the winter ’stage’ in Egypt. Onwards to 3500, and an extra 5 free trips!

Next Wednesday Lierse play their first league match of the season away to Hamme.

The first half was a fairly tepid affair, but Getafe only needed 2 chances to score. Firstly a dubious penalty award after 18 minutes following a foul by Frans on Manu, Contra converted the penalty. Five minutes later a deflected free kick from Granero from the edge of the area doubled Getafe’s lead.
Between the two goals, Lierse had created a couple of decent chances: Nedzipi forcing a corner, and Dreesen shooting the resultant corner at the keeper. Just afterwards there were good chances for Cavens and Ventose.

During the break, Nikolic replaced Ventose up front for Lierse. There were not too many chances created by either side,
although Mario made it 0-3 for Getafe on 74 mins after hesitation in the Lierse defence.

This Saturday Lierse holds its annual Fanday. Just like every year, this is the supporters event that you really shouldn’t miss. As well as the traditional team presentation and autograph sessions with the players, there are numerous activities on the programme. Fitness NRG will give demo’s, Cee Point and Jako hold a fashion show, and in the evening Miss Lierse will be chosen. At 19.30 our Lierse Ladies will play Massenhoven on the A-pitch, and the evening will be brought to a close with a glittering party.
Throughout the day you can also enjoy the various attractions: bouncy castle, crazy bicycles, rodeo bull, and an
inflatable goal.

From 17.00 you can get a warm meal, casserole steak with chips (with soup as starter) for 10 Euro.
