32.jpgLierse won by the smallest margin vs VW Hamme. Antwerp drew 0-0 at Doornik and so Lierse still have their fate in their own hands. If they win at antwerp next Sunday they’ll be in the play-offs.

Herman Hellepute gave his analysis of the match:
What we saw fall to pieces last week is now revived, the play-off dream. You see also that all teams in the subtop are equally matched. Everyone misses chances.

We saw a very good first half:
We used the flanks very well and created a lot of pressure. Despite the fact that we created few chances, there was a lot of space. This was one of our better halves of the season. It’s incomprehensible though how we again played with fear in the second half. We appeared scared that we would give away the win and that’s a pity. If you go ahead against a team with nothing left to play for, you have to be able to play out the game. Deprez made a fantastic save from an effort from Janssens. If it’s then 2-0 it looks of course very different. Now Hamme remained very motivated as they felt that something was still possible. We got space on the counter but did nothing with it. That redeeming second goal didn’t come, but the most important thing is that we were able to hold onto the lead.

The trainer also saw a useful Cavens, who had been criticised in places recently:

He was especially good in the first half. He played for the team. He was sometimes a bit unlucky with some moves, but he more than made up for that with his effort. Some people will perhaps say otherwise, but afterwards from the pictures you see that Jurgen always brings you more than a lot of people think. He gave the assist for the goal by the way. Sometimes he’s a bit too nonchalant, and a number of supporters don’t like that of course.
Next week there’s the very important game at Antwerp. Perhaps somebody like Miller is important?
Charlie will certainly be considered for selection. He’s a bit further advanced than 2 weeks ago. A good Miller should be able to bring us far.

Capa (Hamme trainer) let it be known that he would come and watch Lierse if they made the play-offs.

2.jpgBefore the match, Chris Janssens was named player of the season. Yoni Buyens was second, and Sven Van der Jeugt third.
The first half hour saw half chances at both ends. After 24 minutes, a free kick from Janssens found the head of Bojovic, but Deprez saved without too much difficulty. A minute later, a good looping header from De Ridder nearly caught Van der Jeugt too far out of his goal, but he was able to pluck the ball out of the air. On 32 minutes, a good through ball from Cavens, and Rimkus chipped over the advancing Deprez - 1-0 Lierse. In the last minute of the first half, Samir shot under the diving Deprez from a tight angle, but a Hamme defender was able to clear from the line.
The second half saw more possession from Hamme. Lierse’s best chance came on 71 minutes. A free kick from Rimkus, Janssens shot on target, and produced a superb reflex save from Deprez. A real scare for Lierse on 84 minutes, Van der Heyden cut in from the left, and shot against the left hand post. That was the last real chance at either end.
