jarju.jpgMustapha Jarju, Lierse’s topscorer, whose contract expires at the end of the season, has received a new contract proposal from Lierse. He explained in an interview after the Lierse-Eupen match.
Jarju: “Lierse has proposed to me a new five-year contract. I like it her, I love this club and it’s supporters, so there is a chance I’ll stay. I find five years a bit long, if I stay, I would opt for a three-year contract. Whether we get promoted to the first division this season or not, will probably not influence my decision. I’m convinced that we will get promoted next season. I’m still realtively young, and still have several years in which to build my career step by step.

meyers.jpgChristopher Meyers, a 17-year old central midfielder (21/11/90), has signed a new 2 year contract with Lierse. Meyers has already been a part of the first team squad this season, and has appeared as a sub in the first team.

eupen1.jpgLierse took an early lead through a penalty from Jarju after 10 mins. Eupen played too sloppily to force any major chances. Lierse should have increased their lead, but Samir (side netting) and Jarju (bar) missed.
The second half was rather a non-event. Eupen matched Lierse and threatened now and then. Lierse’s finishing was poor, but they deservedly won to win their second consecutive match.

Lierse: Van der Jeugt, De Corte, Frans, Janssens, Rabie, De Witte, Buyens, Rimkus (Wahed 68′), Samir, Cavens (Develer 75′), Jarju (Bojovic 87′-
Booked : Buyens, De Corte
Eupen: Wins, Chareton, Rentmeister, Lebe, Tomsin, Colin, Bongard, Thijs, Molnar (Falcione 30′), Vinamont, BrulsBooked: Molnar, Thijs, Rentmeister
Sent Off: Rentmeister (90′ - 2 x yellow)

Trainer Helleputte is a happy man:
We played especially well in the first half hour. There were chances for a second and third goal which we didn’t take. As long as the second goal doesn’t come, it remains tense of course, but we kept playing the ball around well.
On the counter it didn’t work as well in the second half:
We fell back and then the counter attack has to be better. The final ball didn’t work. I’d like to cite mitigating circumstances. The pitch wasn’t in the state it should be. It was bumpy and that made it difficult sometimes. It was no problem to keep a clean sheet, although it was sometimes dangerous in front of our goal.
Helleputte justified his decision to start with Rimkus and to bring on Wahed as sub:
They were both not totally fit, but I let Lorenzo start because he has a dangerous free kick. I let Wahed come on as we had to keep our slender lead, and he is able to keep hold of the ball.
Samir also pleased the trainer:
It was unlucky for him that he wasn’t able to score, because just like last week he played a very decent game.
On Sunday there is an important game for Lierse between Leuven and Antwerp:
Let them draw, that’s always the best!

On Lierse TV you can watch the highlights of the first half , and the second half, an interview with goalscorer Mustapha Jarju, and some footage of the victory celebrations.

110373951.jpgThey were named the ‘Young Godlike Canaries’.
They come from the poorest slums of Brazil.
They are top footballers.

From 12-18 April the ‘Young Godlike Canaries’ come to Belgium. They will be looked after by the board and the youth training team of K.Lierse S.K during their stay. They will come here to train, relax and play a few matches.

Centro de Treinamento de IBISS
Amongst the thousands of youngsters who spend their days kicking round a football in the dangerous favela’s, there are certainly new Romario’s and Ronaldo’s. The place where they play is too far away and too dangerous for scouts from the top Brazilain clubs to venture to though.

For years young talented players play their football at the ‘escolinhas de futebol’ of IBISS. IBISS is a Brazilian development organisation which has fought for 20 years against the social exclusion within Brazilian communities. To help young players, who would normally not get the chance, to develop and fulfil their talent, IBISS has set up the Centro de Treinamento. At the CTI they learn how to tactically read a match, how to manage as a professional footballer, and how to win matches, as well as just playing attractive football. Alongside football, attention is paid to discipline, self-fulfilment, and how to cope with money and success, and disappointment. The plan is that within two years, the first youth products will be brought to professional clubs in Europe.

This is the first overseas visit of the ‘Young Godlike Canaries’. The training sessions and matches of the 17-strong squad of 17-21 year olds are open to the media, and we invite you to talk with the players at the end of a match or training session. A translator will be on hand.

K.Lierse S.K and partners of Wadi Degla Holding decided to financially support the CTI-school and get them to come over to Belgium, to give them a taste of European football, and to get a measure of the level of these players. The objective is, as in the tradition of the JMG school, to push through the very best ones, and offer them a future in our club.

Programme
14-April: training and a match in Holland
15-April: training and at 19.30 a match against Lierse reseves in the Herman Vanderpoorten stadium.
16-April: training and a tourist trip to Antwerp
17-April: training, a tourist walk around Lier, and at 19.30 a friendly vs FC Kempen, at the Doelvelden in Belaar.
From 18-April the group will travel to Holland to finish off the rest of their itinerary.

The exact training times and match kick-off times can you find on www.ibiss.info under the heading Latest News. Check this site before coming to a training session or a match.

IBISS
The CTI is linked to IBISS. This development organisation aims to produce a ‘healthy community’, in which everybody has access to public services. Diseases such as leprosy and tuberculosis are combatted, social injustice is fought and human rights are respected.

jurbev.jpgAfter the 0-4 win at Beveren, Lierse.com sought an initial reaction from Jurgen Cavens, who redeemed himself after his weaker match against Tubeke.

Jurgen, the 0-4 win at Beveren is a boost after the poor showing against Tubeke, also for you personally because you had an excellent game, in which you provided 2 assists:

Cavens: “That was expected from me, particularly after Wednesday’s match, which was indeed below par. Luckily the Beveren game came only 3 days later. The group reacted very well on the pitch, it could even have ended up 0-7 or 0-8, if we had finished better. But the most important thing is that we have provided a good response to the poor performance of last Wednesday.”

Even though you were played a bit out of position on the left wing:
Cavens: “That wasn’t really strange for me as I’d played in that position in the past with Twente and Germinal Beerschot. It was the best solution to create balance in the team, the trainer got it tactically correct. We were able to keep a clean sheet, and rediscover our efficiency in front of goal. But most importantly, we got three points!”

In the run in to the play-off, Beveren has got weaker?:
Cavens: “Indeed, I spoke to Karel Snoeckx after the match, and he said it’s really going downhill with his team. But that’s not our concern of course. Finally we we able to still have a good feeling after a match, also for me. I have to maintain this level, because with my experience and qualities, I have to be one of the better players every week. Consequently I’m very happy with this performance.”

At Lierse they prefer not to speak about the play-offs anymore, but after this win there’s still a chance to get the 5th place:
Cavens: “There are still 6 matches and that’s 6 finals for us. We’re going to try and win them, but we’re still dependent on other teams slipping up. We mustn’t concern ourselves with that. We have to work week after week, play our game and see where we end up. Let’s just say that we’re secretly hoping to make the play-offs.”

Lierse.com has collated sime news snippets following Saturday’s match.

img_0125.jpgAbdel ‘Mo’ Wahed, currently out with a hamstring injury, became a father of a son on Saturday night. For Wahed and his wife it’s their first child, and is called Omar. Wahed took a plane to Egypt on Sunday afternoon together with Maged Samy, to visit his family. He will return to Belgium on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Charlie Miller was, despite his 2 goals, disappointed after the match. Miller was booked by referee Wouters for his over enthousiastic goal celebration, and is subsequently suspended for Saturday’s home match vs. Eupen.

Miller: “After scoring I lifted my shirt and rubbed my chest in the direction of the Beveren supporters, who had been shouting ‘fatty’ at me from the start of the match. That such a response was punished with a yellow card is sad. That’s not comparable with for example a bad tackle. It’s doubly a pity for me, because my family are coming to Belgium next week from Scotland, and won’t be able to see me play.”

foto03.jpgMaged Samy wanted to follow Beveren - Lierse amongst the fans, and so travelled with the coach from Lier with SC Fagoempel. Samy was immediately put in the Lierse tribune and immersed in the atmosphere. He vociferously shouted encouragement to the players during the match.

Ahmed Samir scored the first Egyptian goal for Lierse since the collaboration with Wadi Degla. Samir found the net after a pass from Cavens, and later himself provided the assist for Develer’s goal. Recently Samir’s wife and son have come over to Belgium.
There was a nice atmosphere in the Lierse dressing room after the victory, many smiling faces, and bootys which were shaken from the song of a similar name.

There wasn’t much work for the medical staff after the game, only Jarju had a problem with a swollen eyelid, as a result of a collision with a Beveren defender.

The Tuesday training this week wiil exceptionally not take place in Kessel, but on an artificial pitch in Liège.

img_6078.jpg Thomas De Corte made his comeback after 6 months out with injury. De Corte was full of praise for the medical staff, who had got him to this position. The young right back played a remarkable match, gave an assist to the first goal from Miller after half an hour, but was substituted during the second half after flirting with a second yellow card. His first yellow was induced by Sandy Martens, who openly dived in a duel between the two.

It was the last day of the regular competition last season that Lierse last scored 4 goals away from home. Then it was a 1-4 win at Lokeren, which secured a play-off place. This win was by the biggest margin since 98-99, when Lierse won 0-6 at Ostend (2 goals from Haagdoren, Huysmans, Somers, Spiteri and Van De Weyer). In order to find the last 0-4 away win, we have to go back to the 75-76 season, when Lierse beat Antwerp 0-4.

beveren.jpgLierse won 0-4 at Beveren on Saturday evening. As a result Lierse moved to within 1 point of Beveren in the table.

Helleputte rang the changes in the team following Wednesday’s home defeat to Tubize, partly due to suspensions (Bojovic and Vanderzijl), but also Ernandes and Vleminckx were consigned to the bench. Omar and De Witte appeared in the starting line-up.

In a moderate first half Lierse scored from their first chance. On the half hour Miller slid home a pass from the returning De Corte. Miller celebrated his goal too enthousiastically according to referee Wouters, was booked, and is subsequently suspended for next week’s game vs Eupen.

Five minutes before the break, Cavens found Samir, who controlled and shot past Deelkens  - 0-2.

The second half was more entertaining, especially from a Lierse perspective, as they created one chance after another. Miller scored his second early in the half after again an assist from Cavens (0-3). The substitute Develer glanced a free kick from Samir past Deelkens (0-4). In between Zito had rightly been red carded for a lunge on De Witte.

So Lierse beat a weak Beveren 0-4, who didn’t create a single chance on goal in the whole match. The score could have been higher, but Lierse neglected to finish off a handful of chances.

Beveren : Deelkens, Van Geneugden, Diawara, Topka, Snoeckx, Oduro, Sawaneh, Tamla Ladji, Van Gysel, Martens, Aerts
Lierse: Van der Jeugt, De Corte, De Witte, Rabie, Janssens, Buyens, Cavens, Frans, Miller, Jarju, Samir

Goals:  0-1 Miller 28`, 0-2 Samir 41`, 0-3 Miller 51`, 0-4 Develer 82`
Yellow Cards: Miller, De Corte
Red Cards: Zito

Video-interviews with Ahmed Samir and Omar Rabie are now online on Lierse TV.

beverenres.jpgLierse reserves played KSK Beveren at the Lisp on Friday evening. From the Lierse first team squad, only Goris and Ventose started. The match began evenly with several very big chances. An enjoyable first half for the spectators. Leeroy De Keersmaeker scored a world class goal, a shot from distance landed in the top corner.

In the second half the tempo was somewhat lower, which taking into account the bad weather was logical. The play was sloppier and Beveren were able to profit from that. Seedorf scored the equaliser. Lierse still had some good chances, but couldn’t find the net, and the match ended 1-1.
