Lierse lost 0-2 at home to title candidate Tubize. It was 0-1 after barely five minutes. From a corner Vandenbroeck directed a good downward header between Van der Jeugt and the post. Lierse had it difficult against strong visitors, and that was confirmed on the half-hour when Mununga made it 0-2. The home team rarely created chances, and when they did the post or the bar got in the way.
Trainer Herman Helleputte saw a weak performance from his team:
“We began very poorly. If you kick off, and after seven seconds Tubize have the first chance, than something is wrong. Five minutes later was Chris (Janssens) temporarily off the pitch, and they profited immediately from that.”
Helleputte also saw a strong opponent:
“The three Tubize forwards posed a constant threat and formed an integral part of a strong team. If then several players from our own team play under par than you know it’ll be difficult.”
But according to the trainer, not only did the team get it wrong:
“I made a mistake myself in the team formation. I’m not saying that we would have won otherwise though. Tubize was just too strong and we played a poor match. When it becomes 0-2 you know that there will be space free. The substitution of Tim (Vleminckx) doesn’t mean that he was the weakest link. Other players could also have been replaced. But we simply were not good enough. Tubize are, accordong to me, title candidates.”
Just like last week the trainer realizes that it’ll be very difficult to reach the play-offs:
“It indeed remains a very difficult task, but we’ll take each match as it comes and see where we end up.”
