On Saturday evening Lierse won 1-0 away to KVSK United, bringing to an end the Limburgers run of 7 consecutive wins.
In the first half United put Lierse immediately under pressure, and much of the danger came from the right flank, and the Lierse defence panicked. In the 25th minute Van der Jeugt missed a cross, Scheelen was taken by surprise and headed over. Lierse only got a few chances on the counter, but were unable to finish. Jarju shot too weakly at goal, a sweeping ball from Wahed went just wide. Just before the break, Eberle (ex-Lierse) was through on goal, his shot hit the post.
In the second half Lierse began sharply, after 25 seconds a shot from Jarju hit the post. In the 50th minute Cavens with a long cross field pass, Wahed with a perfect assist, which was beautifully finished off by Jarju. Just after a chip from Cavens was blocked by the hand of Euvrard, but refereree Vandevelde said no penalty. Jarju was through again on goal just after, but his shot was stopped by Muyters.
At the other end, Vandeweyer was put through on goal, but Van der Jeugt made a great save. The match could have gone either way at this stage. Scheelen with a fierce shot, Van der Jeugt again with the save. At the other end, Frans hit a half-volley just wide.
The last few minutes were very tense. Janssens prevented a goal from Scheelen with a last ditch tackle. Lierse continued to look for another goal. Samir shot just over the bar. In the 92nd minute, Janssen was suddenly through on goal, but Van der Jeugt threw his whole body to the cause and saved again.
Lierse won slightly flatteringly, and are back in the running for a playoff place.
