Lierse lost 0-1 at home to KV Kortrijk on Saturday evening. Lierse began the match well, but after a penalty conceded in the 20th minute, and converted by N’For, Kortrijk maintained a strong organisation, and gave away hardly any chances.

 Lierse started the match fervently, in the 3rd minute Jarju was sent through alone on goal, but the effort from Lierse’s top scorer was parried by Mollez. Just afterwards Cavens turned a pinpoint pass from Wahed just wide. Kortrijk produced their first dangerous action after 20′, N’For alone in front of goal, but Van der Jeugt dived to save at the striker’s feet. From the ensuing phase of action, Jarju scored from a marginally offside position, goal disallowed, and the Gambian was booked by a weak referee. Just before the half-hour came the turning point in the game, Buyens with a late tackle on Kums, a correct penalty, converted by N’For (0-1).

The lead for Kortrijk was the signal to put down the shutters, and to counter only sporadically, Lierse failed to create an out and out chance before the break.

There were many less chances in the 2nd half, and Kortrijk showed little enthusiasm, and stooped at times to endless time wasting. On the hour, a long throw from Vleminckx was headed on by Janssens, and Jarju headed over. Kortrijk threatened once more, Kums (ex-Lierse), shot just wide in the 70th minute.

In the last quarter of an hour Janssens was pushed up front, but Lierse didn’t get any further clear cut chances, whereby it remained 0-1.

The chances of making the play-offs have taken a serious dive after this defeat.
