After the 2-1 defeat at Olympic Charleroi, Lierse.com collated some news snippets.

  • Lierse’s central defender Frédéric Frans picked up his third yellow card of the season, and will be suspended for the home match against Kortrijk next Saturday. Frans: “It’s not nice to have to sit out such a big match, I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed in the stands. The next two matches are very important, against Kortrijk and United we must pick up 6 points out of 6.”
  • After the match Olympic trainer Danny Ost gave his verdict: “This is a very different Lierse from the first half of the season, they’re much stronger now. The no. 20 (Wahed) is a very strong player, hardly loses possession. Our scout said to us, that on the basis of Lierse-Ostend, Lierse is the best footballing team at the moment, with 3 passes they’re away. I chose to play 2 quick forwards against Frans and Bojovic, who are good defenders, but not the quickest, there was space behind them. It’s the first time this season that we’ve scored from a corner.”
  • On the hour mark, Lorenzo Rimkus had to be replaced due to a hamstring injury. On Monday the severity of the injury should be clear.
  • For Olympic Alain ‘Arunina’ Koudou was in the starting line up, an Ivory Coast player who Lierse trainer Helleputte had under him at Beveren.
  • Jerome Van der Zijl and Omar Rabie were omitted from the final squad of 15 for the match.
  • Lierse’s assistant trainer Eric Van Meir’s verdict was that the match was lost in the first 20 mins. “Our first 20 minutes were very bad, 4-5 players began the match far too laxly. We could already have made a number of changes then. We chose, contrary to previous away matches, to play with a triangle in midfield with the point at the back rather than at the front, with the intention of smothering Stilmant, the engine of Olympic. We really played too deep, whereby we were unable to apply any pressure, and Stilamnt could spray lavish passes around. To bring on Cavens, we switched to a 4-4-2, and were able to apply pressure, and gradually came back into the match. There are still 33 points to be won, and to get into the play-offs, we need to get around 20.”
