Lierse lost 2-1 at Olympic Charleroi on Saturday evening, with all the goals coming in the first quarter of the match, from Niangbo, Miller & Diawara.

Coach Helleputte opted for a different system than from recent away matches. His midfield triangle had its point at the back, rather than at the front. So not two defensive midfielders, but two attacking, with Miller up front as the lone striker.

Lierse  seemed to be lacking concentration in the first 20 minutes, and made a lot of defensive errors. Charleoi were able to profit from a misunderstanding between Ernandes and Frans , a simple tap in for Niangbo after 9 minutes. Lierse equalised two minutes later, a nice shot from Wahed against the post, Miller scored from the rebound. After a quarter of an hour, a loss of possession by Vleminckx led to a corner, which Diawara was too easily allowed to head home from, 2-1.

On the half hour, two headed chances from Miller, both from assists from Wahed, the first was headed over, the second went in, but was disallowed for offside.

After 35 mins, Vleminckx was replaced by Cavens, and Lierse switched from a 4-5-1 to a 4-4-2, Samir moved to right back.

There was still time for one good chance for both sides before the break. First for Charleroi, Niangbo dribbled through the Lierse defence, and produced a hard shot saved by Van der Jeugt, who also saved the the follow up from Pehe. From Lierse, there was a nice volley from Wahed which went just over, 2-1 at the break.

In the second half Cavens twice came to the fore, at the other end Bojovic and Rimkus were successively called upon to bale Lierse out of trouble after a quick break by Olympic. Rimkus had to leave the field after an hour with a hamstring injury, and was replaced by Janssens, who quickly showed his worth. A free kick was headed on, and Miller slashed over. The only real goal scoring chance for Olympic  came a quarter of an hour from time, Steens shot wide.

Lierse applied a lot of pressure in the last quarter of an hour, which resulted in several chances. A goal from Cavens was disallowed for offside, and after a refined back heel from Cavens, the shot from Miller was cleared off the line. In the 90th minute, a free kick from Miller, headed on by Bojovic, and Cavens spooned the ball onto the top of the crossbar and over the goal. In injury time, Bojovic headed wide from a Samir corner.

That was it, and the six match unbeaten run has come to an end. Lierse has lost ground in the league table, and must get 6 points out of 6 in the coming matches against Kortrijk and KVSK United, if they are to make the play-offs.
